Preparation for i.v. sedation
Medication used for i.v. sedation is very safe and has no influence on basic life functions. Despite long good results and favorable clinical experiences, one may meet some complications of the i.v. sedation, e.g. headache and vertigo that usually disappear within 6 hours after the procedure. More serious complications are seldom. The patient planned for an operation in the i.v. sedation supposes to bring from a general doctor a medical report including ECG, blood tests (platelet, red and white cells number, minerals, liver tests, glykemia), and urine tests.
Before an operation :
- do not drink alcohol (24 hours before)
- women taking contraception pills continue in the day of procedure
- make a list of medication you regularly take and bring them with; continue with the medication, however the last tablet take minimally 2 hours before surgery
- remove varnish from nails of your left hand (transparent varnish can stay there)
- 6 hours before a surgery do not drink, do not eat, and do not smoke
Immediately after an operation:
- you might feel a bit sleepy and dizzy
- without accompanied person you will not be allowed to leave the office, please ensure the person with a car; coming home with a public transportation will not be allowed
- in the day of surgery, do not plan any important meetings and business deal; do not arrange any contract signature and activities where you need concentration (including driving a car)
