All surgical procedures performed in our center are approached through oral cavity. There is no scar on a facial skin or a neck. However patients may be swollen almost after every surgery. It depends on a size and length of the operation and on a sex of the patient as well; in women similarly on their period. SWELING is usually bigger after surgery in the upper jaw and here may widespread till a lower eyelid. The edema could be efficiently decreased by means of enzymes. Tablets called Wobenzym or Phlogenzym are taken particularly after the surgery. On the other hand, edema is not a serious problem and disappearance usually starts the third day after surgery. One may notice some BRUISING or discoloration of the skin and gums near the implant site. This discoloration typically fades away in two to three weeks.
DISCOMFORT may be felt first two days after the surgery. Intensity of the pain is not high and patients can reduce it using pain killers. Generally, two to three tablets daily are enough for only a few days. However it depends on abuse of the tablets before the operation. Nobody suffers in our center during and after the surgery. Conversely, most patients are surprised how smooth is the operation and the time after. Pain may be dull and pressing, but not sharp and throbbing. Patients are frequently tired and sometimes a bit sleepy after the surgery and can have a higher temperature. If the temperature exceeds 38o C (a fever), please contact the person who was operated on you. The surgeon is on call the following couple of days after surgery hence, please do not be afraid you are lost and without medical support. Do not hasitate and call in case you need information. Usually jaw muscles may be stiff for a few days after surgery and in some infrequent cases one may not be able to open the jaw as widely as usual. For working patients, we offer so-called a working inability (pracovní neschopnost) for about one week after the procedure. The reason is not pain but mainly edema and following bruise.
Patients after almost all surgeries have stitches in mouth, that are soft and do not harm. They are resorbable but we remove them in 7-14 days. Mainly that is why is important not to eat the usual food but focus more on SOFT & LIQUID DIET . Please, chew principally on the not operated site. Unharmed healing of the wound is a presumption of a successful implant osseointegration in the jaw.
After the surgery, every patient receives a gauze pad placed on the implant site in order to press and stop the bleeding wound. Pink saliva is normal for a couple of days especially after a wisdom tooth removal. Similarly, minor on-and-off bleeding is normal the first two days after surgery. Please, use an ironed handkerchief to bite on the bleeding site. REPORT EXCESSIVE BLEEDING TO YOUR (IMPLANT) SURGEON. Excessive bleeding is continuous that soaks through the gauze pads used to place pressure on the implant site.
Especially, not to provoke bleeding, it is forbidden rinse a mouth after the surgery and drink and eat anything hot. RINSING MOUTH has its value for cleaning of the wound and oral hygiene, however NOT EARLIER THAN 24 HOURS AFTER A SURGERY. We recommend either home-made herbs tea or commercially produced disinfection solution e.g. Corsodyl.
